the journey home 10/9

We got to sleep in till 7a then went down for a leisurely breakfast. Then to lounge in our room till checkout. We got a different flight home, but not until 230p. I had forgotten to bring sunscreen and we picked up some at Walgreens. It was never warm enough to wear short sleeves so I never used it. Since we are flying home with only carry on luggage and it is 5 ounces I gave it to our trip leader.     We caught the shuttle at 11 and parked ourselves in the airport. My little red Leatherman made it thru security in San Diego, but the Albuquerque security cought it and I lost it.  Those lovely blouses I saw on arrival at the airport I never found anything better so I got both of them. We checked to see if there was an earlier flight but no do we get to camp out for 2.5 hrs.  an uneventful flight home, Mary took us home and we set out to get our puppy. now our little family is back together again.

day 4 balloon festival in Albuquerque

We're up again at 4:00 p.m. to go to the mass ascension. We had breakfast at the chasers club again and saw the drone show and the dawn patrol take off. We aren't going to wander the field today, we are going to go down the midway with our 100k closest friends. Ugh! So much better in the chasers area. Way to crowded! But we did go down the Midway and back up the road away from the crowd.  A wonderful rendition of the national anthem. The mass ascension was all fabulous as yesterday!  I didn't expect to take pictures today but it's so fabulous! It's amazing!!      At 930 we went back to the hotel for an hour nap. Then off to lunch at El Pinto which was lovely and park like. Then to Coronado national historic site. We had dinner in the hotel last night for our final group meal. This has...

day 3 10/7/23 at the balloon fiesta

We got up at 4:00 to meet the bus at 4:30 for the trip to the park. There is supposed to be about 10 balloons go up first, they are called 'the dawn patrol' and then they'll have a mass ascension of maybe 500 balloons. It's supposed to be really impressive! We are here with over 100k of our best friends. I t really wasn't cold at the hotel so I thought perhaps I overpacked when I brought my electric vest and my big heavy jacket.  I was right to bring it, it got colder and I was glad I had it. First thing is a big breakfast in the Chasers Club. Then a drone show. It was great! It was such an amazing process to watch the balloons prepare to launch.  The first 10 balloons go up to check the air currents are flowing in which direction at which height. They report back to everybody else.  The main ascension didn't...
